I am currently working on Maya to learn the modeling technique.

The subject is the famous ts522 Brionvega, the radio called “cube”.

These are some test of the materials and the scenario (my intention is to simulate a pic-nic). Theme  are still a draft: the lights and background are not the final ones and the resolution is low so as not to increase too much the rendering time.

FLOWCHART

From existing applications to flows. We chose one of these, decided the content and designed a new graphic style.

Da applicazioni esistenti ai diagrammi di flusso. Abbiamo scelto ua di esse, deciso il contenuto e progettato un nuovo stile grafico.

Work carried out in collaboration with Matthew Ruggiu.
Five different applications were introduced to us. After getting their
Flowchart, we chose as reference moving pictures, which allows you to browse
a series of images. Having the container, we had to decide the content so we
focused on the topic. The first idea was to insert images from the
Kamasutra, but it had some limitations: because of the explicit sexual theme it would never
have passed the test of Apple and presenting an already defined style, it wouldn’t have allowed
us to outline a new design. But it was interesting because there’s no copyright on these photos.
So we decided to create an application that would allow you to browse through a sequence of
images about art; however it could have been boring and the user should have a knowledge
about the representations. So we decided to add short descriptive texts, which contain the
necessary informations (author, date, description, context).
From here began the search of materials, such as images without copyright,
and the text composition. We chose to write both in Italian and in English,
to make the application usable by a wider portion of users.
Once we found the materials, we decided to order them chronologically; then
we decided to split the images in topic categories that make the reading
less predictable and different from a classic art history book.
We have collected the images in “Art like Design” (name freely inspired by the
text of Professor Brusatin), a collection of pieces of art considered forerunners
of modern design objects.
The last phase involved the layout and the aesthetic.
Having two different types of images, we decided to expose first the horizontal image in
full screen or the vertical in a semi screen, and after the text related to it.Work carried out in collaboration with Matthew Ruggiu.

Layout
As for aesthetics, we chose to use the font used by Apple, Helvetica, for consistency, and we created a cover that recalls the contents without being too explicit. We also thought about the extensions that this application could support: the opportunity to be updated by downloading new chapters on the art world and becoming a museum guide, downloadable from the site of the museum or from the App store.
Museum
ArtPhone
The application we designed is about art and design and presents a series of images, followed by the relative texts, divided into categories according to the subject. We decided to develop this issue because we know it, so we can understand the usefulness and the usability of it.
The application could be attractive both for the curious user who wants to enhance his culture, both for the expert of art and
design user that wants to obtain immediately available informations.
As a museum guide it has many advantages as opposed to the existing ones: it may contain a potentially infinite number of informations and is a tangible memory of the art exhibition.
Compared to an art book the iPhone is light, quick to see and always at your hand; the application is not like to be tedious as there isn’t too much text and a lot of space is for the images; in addition the division into chapters makes the user’s understanding easier and allows him to make new associations.

ArtPhone
If you want to access a selection of the most interesting art works, then ArtPhone is the
application right for you.
The Multi-touch interface lets you slide the images with a simple touch, as if
leafing through a book.
And not likely to miss the mark, because the application reopens on the same page you closed it.
After each work you will find a description long enough to brag of about your artistic skills
with your colleagues or make good impression with your lover.
ArtPhone will be your pocket encyclopedia and you can access it whenever you want and in any
place, without connecting to the internet.
If you want to know more about design and its origins, download ArtPhone. In fact the theme of
this first collection is “Art like design”, namely the works of art as the basis for the modern
industrial design. Through five chapters you will discover its evolution.
ArtPhone is upgradable: you can download new chapters on other topics, always related to the
art world.

These are the steps of the application design: concept, flowchart, content, visual design and
code.
The mere concept is nothing more than a point of departure; it’s creating the flow that makes
you understand the feasibility of the application and it’s coding that makes it attractive
for the company.
The finished product requires to carry out all the steps.
The application must pass the Apple control and only later it may be offered for sale.
To be accepted by the company, it needs to meet certain standards, so it’s better to take
them into account during the construction and the development of the application. These are the steps of the application design: concept, flowchart, content, visual design and

flowchart
The Flowchart is a diagram that shows the course of a logical process. It’s necessary because it allows the designer to translate his idea into a scheme that clarifies which steps are essential and feasible. We worked with the flowchart following two different ways of work, as a transposition of an idea (baby’s name application) or getting it from an already existing application (5 new applications). In the first case it is necessary to convert your thoughts in the stream of actions that the user will make, trying to facilitate his use of the software, for example by reducing the number of steps; the second requires the ability to deduct. Point common to the two ways of work is the understanding of the application functioning.
In a good design it’s necessary to understand what happens after any given command or action and the required timing. Moreover, drawing a flowchart helps to design the visuals of the application.
content
The inventor of a product, result of commitment, effort and ingenuity, is protected by a series of regulations, ranging from industrial property, including patents, trademarks and designs, to royalties. The rights imposed by the industrial property are registry rights because
it’s needed the inclusion on the register, while the royalties concerning the artistic and literary works are automatically assigned when created and do not require the filing of the work. The need to protect the ownership of the Intellectual Property is perceived, especially by the
authors themselves, since late XIX century, when was born the first association aimed at protecting them (BIRPI Bureaux Internationaux Réunis pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle or International Office for the Protection of Intellectual Property).
Planning ArtPhone we needed to find images of art works and then we had to understand the limits imposed by the copyright on them and if reproduction through photos, found on the internet, have the same limitations as the art work. Once we understood that it is mere representation of the art piece, we learned that it can be used for commercial purposes only if covered by the public domain, and not by the cc. The source from which we have taken the informations and images is Wikipedia, which for academic aims gives the freedom to use the texts for any specific purpose and the category of each photo.
visual design
The user has no idea how the software connects the reaction of the machine to the actions he did, for this reason often he does not understand the time that the machine needs to perform a calculation. The interface is in most cases the only part of the device that communicates with the user and allows him to act on the device itself. Precisely for this reason the interface has to be carefully designed as clear as possible so that he does not occur into error. Moreover, for the same reasons, it should be attractive fot the consumers.
code
It concerns the programming of a software; to program includes a number of commands that connect your computer to the content through a series of actions or calculations. Each different compiler requires a different programming language. These have different degrees of difficulty from basic, such as Action Script, to complex, such as Xcode. This is not multi-platform, as opposed to Action Script; as well Xcode was not done thinking of the human language so is not intuitive and requires that the action will not be executed if the command is not entered correctly. The only aid is the continuation of the writing of the command when you type it. For more creates many files with the same name but different
extension that stores various information about the same code and the programmer must write different commands in each of these files. Xcode requires that you declare all the components and their actions; this is difficult but it makes possible to know the exact outcome of the program,
while with Action Script, which accepts commands also not very strictly defined, it is more uncertain. It also allows to associate images with the code very quickly, converting them into symbols and to export in variuos formats, for example the web, or even to create software.
Being a programmer is a job, and takes time, minimum 10 years, but approaching the subject is not impossible. In fact every student can and should do so primarily because this way he would understand more deeply the functioning of the software that is planning and he would be aware that some functions (and thus required the programmer) are feasible or not. Furthermore you understand better how the machines talk to each other or with additional components input and output, such as sensors. Today, designers can not afford to know how to perform a single task, but must know how to navigate in various fields, from the conceptual to the practical. Also being able to achieve simple codes can be useful to produce animations and presentations in Flash and makes the work much more clear and incisive.
In the case of group work, as today is very common in the design fiel, it’s necessary to specify appliances of every participant in the project; certainly it is often difficult to clearly divide the work of colleagues but when the skills are clearly different, or when we shall make use of external
advice of a professionist, it is correct to explicitly mention which part of the work is not self-made to avoid plagiarism. This term shall not include the breach of copyright but the use of others’  work without giving the credits, or mentioning and acknowledging the authorship.
